Passo dello Stelvio (Stilfser Joch), Umbrailpass, Ofenpass, Norbertshöhe and Reschenpass – Unforgettable touring in the Italian, Swiss and Austrian Alps all in one day! Route including GPS/GPX data.
The holiday for the year 2005 was a long wait. The decision where and especially also when we were going on holiday was dependant on the period when we would both have free from work. This is the first time after our ‘study period’ that we were to go on holiday and that we were more dependent of our working situation, since we now both work full-time. Studying wasn’t so bad after all … ;-)
In the month of June it was finally decided: the last week of August and the first week of September, with the possibility to shift with a couple of days here and there. And where to? Well, choice enough … but also thanks to the reports from the Alpenfreaks who have visited the region before, we choose to visit the border with Italy, or rather the Dolomites! (hence the Featured Image! ;-) )
After some beautiful holidays in previous years in Wales (2006) and Spain (2008) we decided that this year – since 2005 – to visit the Alps again. This time we specifically choose a holiday home located in a central area; since it enabled us to visit not one, not two, but three Alpine countries: Austria, Switzerland and Italy.
“Where do you end up?” Very easy: in Oberes Gericht, in a village named Pfunds, in Austria. Drive for about 17km and you’re in Italy (Vinschgau, Südtirol), less than 12km and you’re on Swiss ground (Unterengadin, Graubünden).
This travel report shows you what you can do in this area within a radius of 50km. And it´s more than enough, so enjoy your read!
